ROCK & POP BASS SESSIONS: 'FOREVER', HAIM - WITH ELLEN O'REILLY

Watch session bassist Ellen O'Reilly put her spin on 'Forever' by Haim. ‘Forever’ was Haim’s introductory calling card, released as the title track of an EP that was initially available as a free download from the band’s website in early 2012. The bass mainly plays short detached notes, and you should play these with a consistent style and attack, and make sure all rests are observed. In the breakdown, the repeated semiquavers with crescendo will need to be rhythmic, with the crescendo evenly distributed.

Ellen O'Reilly has been playing bass on radio and TV and has been touring the world since 1999. She’s worked with a wide range of artists and was the first female winner of a full bass scholarship at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and won their ‘Best Bassist’ award in 2012. She regularly appears at the Bass Guitar Show in London for Music Man, and is a regular writer for Bass Guitar Magazine.
