ROCK & POP DRUMS SESSIONS: 'FALLIN'', ALICIA KEYS - WITH DAVID DYSON
Watch session drummer David Dyson give his take on 'Fallin'' by Alicia Keys. ‘Fallin’’ featured on New York-born Alicia Keys’ debut album Songs in A Minor in 2001, an immediate hit that topped the US chart and the first of five albums to achieve the same feat. In the verse, the ‘back beats’ (beats 2 and 4) are played with rim clicks on the snare. Experiment with the placement of the stick hitting the rim of the snare to find a ‘sweet spot’ where the sound is best and always consistent. ‘Fallin’’ features a gentle rolling groove which requires careful balance across the kit.
